AGCO powers up core tractor line Author: Diesel Progress North American Edition
AGCO Corp., Duluth, Ga., has redesigned one of its core tractor lines sold under the AGCO name. The new RT series tractors offer higher horsepower engines, a continuously variable transmission option and new cab styling. The series features four models ranging from 100 to 150 hp targeted toward livestock and row crop farmers.
"They're used in all types of farming applications ranging from tillage, loader work, utility, haying, cattle tending to row crop applications, cultivating, planting and spraying," explained Todd Stucke, general marketing manager for AGCO. "They are an all-around fieldwork and chore tractor for the farmer."
The series includes the RT100, RT120, RT135 and RT150 models, all equipped with 5.9 L, six-cylinder, (wastegated) turbocharged, liquid-cooled Cummins-based diesel engines rated 100, 118, 135 and 150 hp at 2200 rpm, respectively. Horsepower on the series has been increased by 3 to 5 hp on each model and the structural design was changed to incorporate the engine into the flame, minimizing the amount of sound emitted from the engine, said Stucke.
While the RT series continues to be offered with AGCO's Auto Quadrashift transmission, a four-speed powershift with eight-speed synchromesh for 32 forward and 32 reverse speeds, its new option includes AGCO's PowerMaxx CVT (continuously variable transmission). The RT series is AGCO's first tractor series to offer the PowerMaxx CVT, which has infinitely variable speeds ranging from zero to 3l mph. Similar to an automatic transmission, the PowerMaxx CVT is designed to eliminate the power gap between gears by adjusting the combination between engine speed and transmission ratio, explained Stucke. "The continuously variable transmission allows you to maximize your productivity so you're always putting the maximum power to the ground making it very efficient to drive."
