Model sheds weight - International Truck and Engine Corp. is offering a lighter weight configuration of its 9200i Class 8 tractor Author: Fleet Owner
International Truck and Engine Corp. is offering a lighter weight configuration of its 9200i Class 8 tractor for customers seeking improved freight capacity and better fuel economy without sacrificing strength and durability.
Available in 4 x 2 and 6 x 4 axle versions, the new 9200i weighs in at 13,500 lb., almost 1,500 lb. less than standard sleeper models in its class.
Mark Vehlewald, marketing director for International's heavy truck group, notes that weight savings are increasingly more important in a trucking industry dominated by razor-thin profit margins.
"[Operators] today must scrutinize every detail contributing to vehicle weight in order to haul more goods, improve fuel economy and increase resale values," he says. "Lightweight features can deliver these bottom-line benefits while maintaining the vehicle's aerodynamic, reliability and durability performance."
Vehlewald points to several lighter-weight configurations of International's 9200i Class 8 tractor for examples of how truck owners can cut out weight, thus maximizing payload and fuel economy, including the following:
