Author: La Crosse Tribune

Tractor Supply Co. is expected in the next several months to open stores in parts of former Wal-Mart buildings in Viroqua, Tomah and Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Wal-Mart opened supercenters in those communities, closing existing stores.

"We announce projects normally when we have a signed lease," Tractor Supply spokeswoman Susan Morgenstern said Wednesday. "We don't have anything to announce yet."

But the Nashville, Tenn.-based farm and ranch supplies retailer already is advertising for a store manager and assistant store manager for its planned Prairie du Chien location.

A job posting on the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Jobnet Internet site says the store will be in Riverside Square - the retail development where Wal-Mart's 73,631 - square- foot discount store closed when Wal-Mart opened its Prairie du Chien supercenter in March 2002.

The job posting says store manager positions also are open for stores Tractor Supply will open 'in Tomah and Viroqua.

Tomah Mayor Chuck Ludeking said Wednesday that Tractor Supply already has applied to the city for a sign permit at the 50,968-square-foot Wal-Mart discount store that closed when Wal-Mart opened its Tomah supercenter in February 2001.
