Originally a brand of International Harvester, the Cub Cadet brand has included a series of four wheel, zero-turn utility vehicles including lawn and garden tractors, prided on their ruggedness and ability to survive tough work conditions.

Cub Cadet is now owned by MTD, and their compact tractor line is produced in conjunction with the Yanmar brand.

IH Cub Cadet model lines began with their earliest, the 7 HP "Original," which was produced from 1960 to 1967. The original featured a belt-driven 3-speed transmission. This initial model was proceeded by the model 70 and 100, which were upgraded with more rigid two-channel frame, shaft-driven models.

The Cub Cadet model 123 from 1966 was the first hydrostatic transmission lawn tractor ever made, eliminating the clutch & shift mechanisms that preceded it.

New wide-body models, starting with the model 86, began production in 1971 and saw new features including hydraulic lifts. The Cub Cadet 169 is the most sought-after amongst collectors, as it as a limited edition 16 HP model.

The models 1000-1650 saw the beginning of the "Quiet Line" series, which were fitted with alternators, engine covers, additional shrouding and a significantly increased muffler size which all worked together to drastically reduce noise.

The last of the IH Cub Cadet models include the 482-982 range, which became the first series to feature twin cylinder engines (except for the 482 with its a single cylinder engine).
